이 예외는 요구된 인증의 특정의 플레이버가 지원 되어 있지 않은 경우에 예외를 발생시킵니다. 예를 들어 프로그램으로 강한 인증을 사용하려고 하고 있는데 단순한 인증 밖에 지원 되어 있지 않은 경우에 이 예외가 발생 됩니다. 인증의 특정의 플레이버 의 ID는 프로바이더 및 서버에 고유합니다. SASL를 사용해 식별되는 인증 schema등의 특정의 인증 schema, 또는 범용 인증 지시자 (simple, strong 등)를 사용해 지정됩니다.

이 예외를 특별히 프로그램으로 처리하는 경우는 NamingException을 캐치 하기 전에 AuthenticationNotSupportedException을 명시적으로 캐치 할 필요가 있습니다. AuthenticationNotSupportedException을 캐치 하면, 거기에 따라 이미 해결된 컨텍스트 의 환경 프로퍼티를 갱신하는 것으로 다른 인증 플레이버를 사용해 프로그램으로 인증이 재시행됩니다.
